Plant Heritage formally known as NCCPG (National Council for the Conservation
of Plants and Gardens)was formed in 1978 to preserve varieties of garden plants
which were being steadily lost to cultivation.
People with an interest in a particular genus offered to start a Collection.
There are 12 Collection Holders with 18 collections in Somerset, and more than 640
over the country (see under Collections on left).
The very active Somerset Group has a wide ranging programme.
Lectures with National Speakers, Visits to Gardens and National Collections,
Plant Sales and Fairs, Lunches.
Propagation and sharing of plants/seeds.
Short break holidays visiting gardens in Britain and sometimes abroad.
The Annual Free Plant Exchange.
Our aim is to increase the number of National Collections and to give them all the support we can.
Visitors are most welcome to come to any of our functions, also to become members and help us in our work.
See under programme for list of functions.
